FAQ – Totus Tuus

Midtown Catholic Totus Tuus Summer 2022
Info and Frequently Asked Questions

Midtown Catholic Parishes are pleased to welcome Totus Tuus back to the community!  This weeklong summer program engages students entering 1st-12th grades in worship, catechesis, and games!  Young adult missionaries from the Archdiocese of Omaha travel around the Archdiocese leading this program, so participants get a unique opportunity to interact and learn from young people who are actively engaging in the faith and discerning their vocation.

This year, the program will be held during the week of July 10-15.  The elementary school program meets Monday-Friday from 9am to 2:30pm.  The middle and high school program meets Sunday-Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.

Below are some frequently asked questions about our summer program, especially regarding what we need from you and our parish community to make this happen!

Please contact Rachel Bielstein at 402-556-1456 for more information or if you have additional questions.

Where will Totus Tuus take place?  St. Thomas More school and church.

Does my child have to attend SJA school, STM school, or DLA to participate?  No, but your family must be registered in SJA or STM parish if your child is not in one of our three schools.

Which session should my child attend?  If your child is going into 1st-5th grades, they will attend the elementary program during the day.  If your child is going into 6th – 12th grades, they will attend the middle and high school program in the evening.

Is there a cost for my child to participate?  The cost of this program is $10 per child, with a maximum of $50 per family.

How do we register and when does registration open?  This year, we will be hosting a registration event on Wednesday, June 1st, at the St. Thomas More Cafeteria.  Doors will open at 6pm.  Registration forms will be available on the parish website one week prior to registration night so that you can fill out the form and plan for who will be dropping it off with the registration fees.  We will not accept any registration forms prior to June 1st at 6pm.  Please note:  Dropping off a registration form during this event gives you the best chance of securing a spot for your child in Totus Tuus – there is no guarantee that we will have spots left after this event.  See the question below for more details on why we are having a registration night.

Why are we having a registration night?  Due to the Archdiocese having a limited number of Totus Tuus teams available, we are only able to bring one team to Midtown Catholic.  We had originally reserved two teams to accommodate the anticipated number of youths wanting to participate, but unfortunately the Archdiocese is dealing with low numbers of missionaries available to help this summer.  This is affecting other parishes in our diocese, and it is reported that other dioceses around the country are experiencing similar issues.  Therefore, we are limited in the number of registrations we can accept, and anticipate that our slots will fill during the registration event.

Is there a registration deadline?  In the event that we do not fill slots on June 1st, we will accept registrations until July 1.  Registrations will be accepted at the parish office ONLY.

What if I registrations are full by the time I turn my form in?   If slots are filled by the time you get your form to us, we will ask you if you are interested in being put on a waitlist.

Can I volunteer?  YES!  In order to make this program happen, we need your help!   We are looking for:

  • Host families: Since the missionaries are traveling from parish to parish, they need a place to stay!  We need two families to host our missionaries from Saturday afternoon, July 9 through Saturday morning, July 16.  Two missionaries would be staying with you (women in one home, men in the other). We ask that these families provide breakfast for the missionaries each morning.  Contact Rachel for more information.
  • Parent and High School Volunteers for the Day program
  • Meals: We need volunteers to prepare/order lunch and host dinner for our missionaries during the week.  Contact Rachel for more information.

Are meals and snacks provided for the day program?  No.  Your child(ren) will need to bring a sack lunch.  We also ask that each family bring a snack to share (chips, fruit snacks, cookies, etc.).  Shared snacks will be used throughout the week during designated snack breaks.

Is there a dress code?  Dress is casual, your child should wear something they can easily move in!
